About Us

Hi, I’m Alyssa, owner and baker of The Stone Kitchen Bakery in Elkview, West Virginia. Baking has been a passion of mine since I was 16 years old, starting as a hobby and eventually growing into a lifelong dream of owning my own bakery.

In addition to being a baker, I’m also a wife to my husband of nearly 10 years and a proud mom to our 6-year-old daughter. At 35, I took a leap of faith, left my job, and turned my dream into reality by opening a home-based bakery. With the incredible support of my family, friends, and community, I’m now blessed to do what I love every day — creating fresh, homemade baked goods made with care and passion.

Growing up, I always loved cooking and baking. As the years went on, baking became more than just a hobby — it became my passion and my escape. Whether I was baking for family gatherings or making treats to give as gifts, the kitchen became my happy place — somewhere I could relax, unwind, and pour my heart into something I loved.

Fast forward 20 years, and while I had a job I enjoyed, I knew deep down I wanted to do something I truly loved. Around Christmas time, I decided to bake a few cakes and desserts and post them on Facebook to earn a little extra money. I never imagined that those few holiday orders would completely change my life.

Through those orders, I connected with the owners of Bricks and Barrels and Rollin’ Smoke, who asked me to create desserts for both restaurants during Restaurant Week. With the help of my husband and my best friend, we baked 150 cakes in just 9 days. It was exhausting, exciting, and the moment I realized this dream could become a reality.

After Restaurant Week, my husband and I sat down and had a serious conversation about finally pursuing my dream of opening a bakery. Just a few weeks later, I left my job and took the leap.

As we began planning the bakery, we needed to decide where it would be located. The road we live on was once my husband’s family farm dating back to the 1800s. While the original home is no longer standing, the property still has the original smokehouse and the historic stone kitchen. My father-in-law generously offered the stone kitchen as the future home of the bakery, and my mother-in-law suggested the name “The Stone Kitchen Bakery.” From that moment on, the name simply felt right.

Unfortunately, once we began working inside the stone kitchen, we discovered it was in too much disrepair to safely use as a bakery space. Not wanting me to give up on my dream, my husband emptied out our garage and transformed it into a working bakery by installing all my commercial equipment there.

Even though the original stone kitchen couldn’t become the bakery itself, the name had already become part of our story. And that’s how The Stone Kitchen Bakery was born — built on family history, hard work, support, and a dream that finally became reality.
